Kenworth T402 delivering for Mark Bloomer Transport

Two of Kenworth’s latest model release T402 prime movers have gone into service for northern NSW transport operator, Mark Bloomer Transport. The T402s are based at the company’s main depot in Grafton and have been put to work on the Pacific Highway running between Newcastle, Grafton and Brisbane.

Bloomers T402 driver, Darrell Gill traded his seat behind the wheel of one of Bloomer’s B Double rigs to drive the new Kenworth.

“It’s a comfortable truck, rides well and doesn’t seem to give much away when it comes to power either,” Darrell added. “I haven’t noticed any difference in trip times on any of the legs.”

Brown and Hurley, Kyogle a key dealership in the nationwide PACCAR sales, service and parts network, supplied the two T402s to Mark Bloomer Transport.
The T402 has been specifically engineered for single trailer intrastate and interstate transport and is well suited to Mark Bloomer Transport’s Pacific Highway operation. As well, the new T402 can also be specified for rigid, and some vocational 19m B Double applications.

“I drove one of the T402s down to Sydney recently,” Mark Bloomer said of his new Kenworths. “It was the first time I’d had a chance to drive one; it went well ... really well. “I have to say it’s hard to tell the difference between the T402’s performance and our T408s. The T402s have plenty of power.”

Mark Bloomer Transport carry a mix of bulk and general freight with K Series
Kenworths on B Doubles operations and the T4 Series on single trailer work.
“One of the T402s pulls a tautliner and the other takes general one way and bulk on the return with a convertible flat-top.”

For Mark, the Kenworth T402 is the perfect specification for his single trailer application; saying that he previously considered Kenworth’s now superseded T401.

“The Cummins M11 in the T401 was too small a cubic capacity engine,” Mark explained. “On highway work drivers would have flogged ‘em trying to maintain trip times and reliability would have suffered. “The T402 is the right truck, with the right amount of power,” he added.

The T402 offers Kenworth’s benchmark reliability, durability and productivity, in a safe, comfortable driver-friendly environment. Its proven 15 litre Cummins’ ISX engine is rated at 450hp and delivers 1650lbft of torque.

Mark says that at just 30,000kms it’s too early to really comment on the T402’s fuel economy, however he does say that the Cummins EGR engine’s fuel consumption improves over time, and that T402’s 450hp ISX engines are already tracking well against the higher rated ISX-powered T408s in the fleet.

According to Brad May, Kenworth’s new product manager, the T402 was engineered to offer choice between the T3 and T408 model ranges
“We wanted to offer transport fleets a truck with a proven pedigree that would reliably perform at its peak payload potential over an extended period of time,”
“The T402 successfully meets the growing demand from fleet owners to improve equipment productivity, but not at the expense of driver appeal and comfort,” he explained. “It’s got heaps of room to move and a big heart”.

The latest Kenworth design features a setback front axle and optimised bumper-to-back-of-cab dimensions for a maximum payload potential.

The T402 is available with the Eaton Fuller AutoShift or manual transmissions, Dana or Arvin Meritor axles and Kenworth’s proven AirGlide 400 suspension. The AirGlide 460 suspension is an option and, for truck operators working in off highway conditions, exterior air cleaners are also available.

Kenworth’s timeless styling teams with the spacious, comfortable T4 cab to offer T402 operators the highest standards of driver comfort and safety. The large one-piece curved windscreen offers commanding all round visibility and is complemented by the premium wrap around dash. Kenworth’s Daylite doors with drop-down glass sections deliver added sideways vision and safety.
Two-piece windscreens are available as an option for those that prefer the more traditional look.

The T402 combines Kenworth’s renowned productivity, comfort and performance in a value package that will deliver the goods in today’s high equipment demand applications.
