Lindsay Australia recently took possession of its 200th Kenworth purchased from award-winning Kenworth dealer, Brown & Hurley - Coffs Harbour. The new T408 joins a growing stable of Kenworth trucks configured for transporting refrigerated produce on interstate routes.

Founded in 1953 by Tom Lindsay and his late brother Peter, the Coffs Harbour-based company, then known as Lindsay Brothers, began carting produce in the local area. Today, Lindsay Australia commands a fleet of more than 200 trucks operating out of 15 depots from Melbourne to Innisfail. The company has also diversified its operations, hauling fresh and frozen produce as well as general and express cartage from Cairns to Adelaide.

In these days of increased competition, transport companies need strategies that make them stand out from the crowd. These could involve such things as presentation, customer service, reliability and quality control. Lindsay Australia uses all these, and more…

Even so, it is still good old grass roots dependability, versatility and productivity that are the keys to Lindsay Australia’s continued success over the past half century, and they’re also the reasons why the company continues to choose Kenworth.

Glen Lindsay, General Manager and son of co-founder Tom Lindsay, says Kenworth continues to offer a range of features and benefits that make its transport solutions excellent value for money.

“Kenworth offers us a solid package – quality trucks that are productive and reliable, and excellent after-sales service wherever and whenever we need it. You pay a little more for a Kenworth, but you get back so much more in terms of performance, dependability and lower whole-of-life costs. And, when it’s time to sell our trucks, our Kenworths always get a higher resale price,” he said.

Lindsay’s Kenworth stable comprises a mix of K104 Aerodynes,T408’s for B-Double haulage, T404 and T401 models for 19-metre line-haul.. Each Kenworth truck travels more than 300,000 kilometres a year.

“One of Kenworth’s major advantages is that they can spec their trucks for a variety of applications, from line haul and B-Double work through to roadtrain operations. That’s important to us. We need trucks that are flexible and capable of tackling variety of applications, in other words do the job and go the distance. Kenworth trucks live up to that promise,” Glen explained.

Lindsay’s new 200th Kenworth, the T408 is being used for 26-metre B-Double line haulage of refrigerated produce on interstate routes. The vehicle is powered by a 15-litre, Cummins ISX engine, generating 525 hp and 1850 ft/lb torque, with an Eaton RTLO18918 transmission and Meritor RT46-160GP differentials riding on Kenworth Airglide 460 rear suspension.

The 200th truck has a number of distinctive features, such as unique heritage gauges and a specially embossed interior with “Lindsay Transport 200th Truck”.

Kenworth’s T408, which features a number of design innovations and improvements, has become one of its most popular selling trucks. Designed specifically for 26-metre B-Double trailers, it is the smart choice for customers requiring a lightweight but powerful workhorse.

The model combines a light tare weight with high-performance, fuel-efficient engines and a short bumper-to-back-of-cab, so that it can handle a variety of single and B-Double applications that are normally reserved for bigger trucks. Kenworth’s engineering improvements benefit both drivers, with improved comfort and safety, and operators with improved productivity and profitability.

PACCAR Australia Managing Director, Mr Joe Rizzo congratulated Lindsay Transport on this significant milestone, while recalling many fond memories with the Lindsay family.

Glen Lindsay said that a critical component in any truck purchase was the service the dealer can provide. “Brown & Hurley has really been there for us over the years. They have an expansive network of outlets right along the east coast, which makes it ideal for us to get service and repairs when required. They also give us excellent advice on the best models for our specific applications, and also keep us up to date on technology developments”.
